Photochemistry

Why Syrris?

As experts in the field of flow chemistry, Syrris understands the growing need for synthetic chemists to tackle the environmental impact of waste and the costs associated with its disposal. Flow photochemistry reactors harness the ability to maximise atom economy and perform ‘clean’ chemistry with minimal waste generation, which makes them an increasingly desirable option for synthetic chemists. Our Asia Photochemistry System was developed to perform continuous photochemistry and enable the widest range of applications and versatility.

Asia Photochemistry System makes performing photochemistry applications easy:

  • Modularity, flexibility, scalability, and ease-of-use
  • High powered LED modules for rapid screening and scale up of reactions to optimize conditions
  • Ability to increase the light intensity (up to 108W)* to reduce reaction times and increase production rates

Application highlights

Commercial-Scale Visible-light Trifluoromethylation of 2-Chlorothiophenol using CF3I gas

Despite the growth of photoredox methods in academia, application of photoredox at scale in the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries has been slow. In this report, a photoredox trifluoromethylation of a thiophenol was modified from the original literature report and the mechanism was investigated to define key scale-up parameters.

The researchers of this paper used multiple Syrris Asia Syringe Pumps to make lab scale flow trifluoromethylation using photochemistry. Read more.
